Employee Spotlight: Staff of Oak Hill Birth to Three Program
Your almost two year old boy whines, cries and babbles, but only says a
few words. Your neighbor just brought home her first baby born
prematurely with feeding issues and problems with sleeping. Your
friend’s one year old is not rolling, sitting up or standing. What
happens now? The pediatrician or parent calls the Child Development Infoline at 211 or 1-800-505-7000 and makes a referral to the CT Birth
to Three System. The referral is sent to the Oak Hill Birth to Three

The Oak Hill staff helps coach the family or caregiver on ways to help the child learn how to talk, walk, eat, sleep, or play with other children. We provide strategies to help parents deal with tantrums, setting limits, and learning how to share. We play with children, demonstrating and having the parents try techniques with our help so the parents can feel more confident and competent when teaching and helping their children reach their goals. We connect families with community resources and refer them to their local school system and help them transition to preschool if needed before the child turns three years old.
The Oak Hill Birth to Three program is now in it's fourth year! We opened in September 2007 and have a small but hard working staff that evaluate and provide services for approximately 60 children each month from 17 different towns in the north central region of Connecticut. We have been very lucky in this past year to have Maria DeLa Cruz provide interpretation and translation for many of the families with whom we work whose primary language is Spanish. Jennifer Baker has also reached out to help provide her knowledge and expertise in assistive technology and help with office operations. We are grateful for their assistance and support.
Who is the Oak Hill Birth to Three staff? They are…. Aggie Pont, program director who is a seasoned professional and licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR). She has more than twenty years experience working with very young children and their families. Joyce Worhunsky, licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) was Aggie’s first hire. They successfully worked together at Early Connections Birth to Three program and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Birth to Three program. Karen Rowntree, licensed Physical Therapist (RPT) is also a seasoned professional with a well rounded background. Karen also worked at Early Connections Birth to Three program with Aggie and
